Android May Go On To Hide Links To Victim Support Lines

In some countries, such as Spain, government regulations exist so that calls for support lines for victims of domestic violence do not appear on the telephone bill. It is extra security to prevent the abuser from realizing that the victim is seeking help.

Something similar can natively come to Android. The proposal was created by a group of engineers of the Spanish manufacturer BQ, which sells smartphones mainly in the European market. The idea is that the system compares the number being called with a list of helpline phones.

Some patches have already been made in the proposal, with LineageOS system developers adding more numbers to the list and Sony employees finding a more efficient way to check which links should be hidden.

The project is still in its very early stages so it is not possible to know if it will be ready in time to be implemented in Android P, which had its first preview for developers recently released.
