How To Download All The Data Google Has About You

Facebook recently took the news with the Cambridge Analytica scandal, which has made many people more aware of how their data is often exploited for less than noble purposes. What many people forget is that Google is another company that basically bet on the same business model.
The Hashsecure recently explained how to download all the data that Facebook has about you, which allows you to have a greater sense of how invaded your privacy is when you use the service. Google has the same feature, which allows you to access the gigabytes of information the company has about you; see how to use it.

1. Visit the Google Takeout page

This page was created specifically to allow you to download your data. You can access it through this link .

2. Select the one you want to download

By default, all fields are checked. If you want to download everything that Google has about you, you do not have to touch anything. Click the "Next" button to proceed.

3. Select how you prefer to receive these files

Under "File Type", you can select whether you want the data to be compressed into a .zip or .tgz file. In "File size (max)", you can select whether the information will be divided into files of 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, 10 GB or 50 GB; the smaller the maximum size selected, the greater the number of files to download, so be aware of that. Finally, in "Display Method" you can choose whether you'll receive a download link via email or whether the files will be uploaded to a cloud storage service of your choice (you can choose Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive).

4. Press "Create File" to confirm

Google warns that creating this bundle of information can take a long time, depending on how much data the company has about you. The process may take a few hours or even days, so you will need patience.
